Roofing and solar, one team

Solar detach and reset for your re-roof.

You cannot replace the roof under a solar array. We remove your panels, replace the roof the right way, and reset the system cleanly, all handled by a team that came up in solar.

What detach and reset means, and why it matters

Detach and reset is exactly what it sounds like. Before a roof replacement, your solar array is carefully detached and removed, and after the new roof is on, it is reset and reconnected. It is a specialized step, and getting it wrong can mean cracked panels, a voided warranty, or a system that never produces the way it did before. Soleo Home started as Soleo Solar, so handling panels during a re-roof is not something we learned on the side. It is where the company began.

If you have solar and your roof is aging or storm-damaged, you do not have to choose between a new roof and keeping your system. We coordinate both sides of the job so the roof gets replaced properly and the array goes back up safely, with one team accountable for the whole thing.

Why you cannot just roof around the panels

A solar array covers a large section of the roof and is anchored straight through the shingles into the deck. There is no honest way to tear off and replace the roofing underneath it while the panels are in place. Trying to work around an array leads to a few predictable problems:

  • The roof underneath the panels never gets replaced, so you are left with old, failing shingles under the most expensive part of your roof.
  • The mounting penetrations do not get properly re-flashed, which is a common source of leaks.
  • Walking and working around a live array risks cracking panels and damaging wiring.

Detaching the system first is the only way to give you a complete roof replacement that actually includes the area under the panels, with fresh flashing at every mount.

Our detach and reset process

We treat your array like the investment it is, and we keep the system offline for as little time as possible:

  1. Safe shutdown and disconnect. The system is powered down and electrically disconnected before any panel comes off.
  2. Detach and label. Panels, rails, and hardware are removed and labeled so everything goes back exactly where it belongs.
  3. Protected storage. The array is stored safely on site or nearby while the roof work is underway, out of the weather and off the ground.
  4. Full roof replacement. We tear off and rebuild the roof underneath, including the code-required ice-and-water barrier and new flashing, exactly as we would on any re-roof.
  5. Reset and re-flash. The mounts go back down with proper flashing, and the rails and panels are reinstalled to their original layout.
  6. Reconnect and verify. The system is reconnected and checked so you can confirm it is producing again.

A building permit is required for the roof replacement itself, and your city, such as Pleasant Grove’s Building Division, will have the permit on file. The solar reconnection is coordinated with the appropriate licensed trades so the system comes back online correctly.

Detach and reset for a storm or insurance re-roof

If your roof was damaged by hail or wind and the replacement is going through a claim, the detach and reset of your solar system can often be part of that claim scope. Our insurance and storm restoration team documents the array and the roof together so the claim reflects the real cost of doing the job properly, including safely handling the panels. As with everything we do, we hold the price to the insurance-approved amount without charging over it.

Protecting your panels and your warranties

Solar panels and their mounting systems come with warranties that can be voided by improper handling. Because we know how these systems are built, we remove and reset them in a way that protects both the panels and the roof warranty underneath. You end up with a new roof and a solar system that works the way it did before, installed by one team that understands how the two have to fit together.

What detach and reset costs and how long it takes

Detach and reset is priced on top of the roof replacement, and it depends on the size of your array, how it is mounted, and how the system is wired. A larger array with more panels takes more labor to remove, store, and reset. In most cases the system is only offline for the span of the roof work, often just a few days. We give you a clear timeline and price before we start, and 0% financing for 24 months is available on the roofing portion if you want to spread it out.

Why homeowners trust Soleo with both the roof and the array

Most roofers do not want to touch solar, and most solar installers do not replace roofs. Soleo Home does both, which means you are not stuck coordinating two companies that each blame the other when something goes wrong. We are a local, owner-run Utah team with real solar experience, and we are still here after the job to stand behind the roof and the reset. When you are ready, a free roof inspection is the first step.

Coordinating the roof and the solar timeline

The hardest part of re-roofing a home with solar is not the roof or the panels on their own. It is the coordination between them, and it is exactly where projects run by two separate companies tend to fall apart. A roofer who does not handle solar waits on someone else to pull the panels, then waits again to get them reset, and your system sits offline while the two sides blame each other for the delay. We remove that gap by owning both sides of the schedule. The detach, the full roof replacement, and the reset are planned as one continuous project, so the array comes off, the roof goes on, and the panels go back up in a tight sequence rather than a drawn-out back-and-forth. That is how we keep your system offline for only the span of the roof work, usually just a few days.

Financing the roofing side of your project

A re-roof with a detach and reset is a larger project than a straightforward replacement, simply because there is more work involved. If you are paying out of pocket, our 0% financing for 24 months applies to the roofing portion, so you can spread the cost over time instead of absorbing it all at once. When the re-roof is tied to a storm claim, the detach and reset can often be part of the claim scope, and financing can help with any remaining deductible. We will lay out the full picture, roofing and solar handling together, with one clear price and no pressure.

Detach and reset questions from solar homeowners

Can you really not replace a roof with the panels on it?

Correct. The array is anchored through the roof and covers a large area, so the shingles underneath cannot be torn off and replaced while it is in place. Detaching the system first is the only way to replace the whole roof, including the section under the panels.

Who disconnects and reconnects the electrical?

The system is safely powered down and disconnected before panels come off, and reconnection is coordinated with the appropriate licensed trades so the array comes back online correctly and safely.

Will my solar produce the same after a reset?

When the array is reset to its original layout and reconnected properly, it should produce as it did before. We verify the system is running before we consider the job done.

Can insurance cover the detach and reset?

Often, yes. When the re-roof is a covered storm claim, the detach and reset of your solar system can be part of the claim scope. We document the array and the roof together so the claim reflects the real cost.

How long will my system be offline?

In most cases just the span of the roof work, often only a few days. We keep the downtime as short as the project allows and give you a clear timeline up front.
